There are many reasons to raise your own chickens. Chickens are easy, inexpensive pets when compared to most other pets.

  • A bag of feed lasts a month for many backyard flocks
  • They mature much quicker than most other pets
  • No housebreaking required

Hens will produce eggs that are fresh, nutritious and great tasting. Backyard eggs are also much healthier than store bought. Plus, they are a great pest control method.

The Cities of Redmond, Bend, and Prineville allow backyard chickens without permits. Below is a brief summary. The information is not guaranteed or all inclusive. We encourage you to contact your local City for details and with questions.
